Product Exploration: Envisioning A Secure Collaboration Layer for the NT Platform

Advisor Connect

Overview

Advisor Connect was a 0→1 product exploration focused on reimagining how advisors and clients exchange sensitive financial information across the NT ecosystem. At the time, document sharing relied heavily on email — a channel misaligned with enterprise security standards and institutional visibility requirements.

I led the exploration to define a secure, embedded collaboration layer that would centralize document exchange, unify communication history, and introduce scalable permission controls across all NT clients. The initiative represented a platform-level transformation in advisor-client interaction, but was strategically deprioritized due to budget reallocation before implementation.

My Role

Product designer (Exploration Lead)

  • Conducted competitive and ecosystem analysis

  • Defined long-term collaboration hypothesis

  • Designed scalable interaction model across user roles

  • Built high-fidelity prototypes to communicate platform vision

  • Partnered with stakeholders on strategic feasibility and alignment

The Opportunity

As digital engagement expanded, the platform lacked an integrated communication infrastructure. Advisor-client interactions were distributed across email threads, local document storage, and disconnected tools, creating security exposure, fragmented visibility, and operational inefficiencies.

This revealed an opportunity to introduce a persistent, role-aware collaboration layer within the NT ecosystem, shifting document exchange from an external transaction to an internalized, auditable relationship system.

Rather than adding a feature, Advisor Connect explored evolving the platform’s core communication architecture.

Competitive Landscape

To evaluate feasibility and differentiation, I conducted a competitive analysis across secure collaboration platforms and financial portals, examining how competitors structured document lifecycle management, permission models, secure messaging, and notification systems.

The analysis revealed that while secure file exchange was common, few solutions embedded collaboration deeply within an enterprise financial ecosystem at scale. The opportunity was not just security — it was systemic integration.

Personalized Account Management

Concept Direction

Advisor Connect proposed a unified collaboration infrastructure enabling secure document upload, contextual messaging threads, role-based access controls, and centralized audit history, fully embedded within the NT platform.

The experience was designed to support institutional visibility, long-term scalability, and seamless integration with existing advisory workflows, positioning it as foundational platform infrastructure rather than an isolated tool.
