Modernizing a legacy implant tracking platform for clinical environments
UDITracker
Overview
UDITracker is the core implant inventory tracking platform used by hospitals working with Champion Healthcare Technologies. Nurses and surgical assistants rely on it to log and track high-value medical implants within fast-paced clinical environments.
When I joined, UDITracker 2.0 suffered from a dated interface, no prior UX involvement, and workflow friction in its most critical feature. As the sole product designer, I led the modernization of the platform — enhancing usability while preserving the functionality hospitals depended on daily.
UDITracker 3.0 began rollout in January 2020, and by March 2020, 120 hospitals were using the redesigned platform.

The Challenge
UDITracker had evolved feature-by-feature without cohesive UX direction, resulting in a cluttered interface and inefficient workflows in high-stakes clinical settings. Users relied on the system daily, yet the experience felt visually overwhelming and difficult to navigate.
Through research, I identified that Case Entry, the platform’s most important and frequently used feature, was also its most broken from a usability standpoint. Dense layouts, poor hierarchy, and excessive visual noise increased cognitive load during time-sensitive tasks.
The challenge was to modernize the experience without disrupting workflows that hospitals relied on operationally.
The Solution
Platform Modernization Without Workflow Disruption
I redesigned the interface to introduce clearer hierarchy, improved spacing, and a more intuitive layout — maintaining all existing features to avoid operational risk.
I restructured the Case Entry workflow to reduce cognitive load, clarify field grouping, and streamline the interaction model, transforming the platform’s most critical workflow into a more focused and efficient experience.
